Leicester City Council’s new draft Climate Emergency Action Plan 2023-28 sets out a series of proposals for how the city can further reduce carbon emissions and adapt to a changing climate.

It became open for public consultation earlier this month.

The plan and supporting evidence, including all the comments and petitions received during the last of four consultation exercises undertaken by the city council, have now been passed to the Government, which will appoint inspectors to manage the public scrutiny and debate of the proposals early next year.

The city council is gathering information on the scale and impact of flooding in the city, following the unprecedented rainfall experienced in Leicester and across the county on 22 June this year.

The city council has outlined an approach involving more council house building, acquiring vacant properties, and working with partners involved in bringing forward Extra Care and supported living schemes as a way to create much-needed housing, with a £150m investment.

It also looks at potential development sites for inclusion in future local plans.

On-street electric vehicle charging bays are set to be introduced across Leicester city centre later this year.

Leicester City Council is proposing to create 38 new electric vehicle charging bays at ten locations in and around the city centre following a successful bid for £480,000 of funding from the Government’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles.
